    • Description:
      Writing can be an outlet for people to tell their stories, explore their creativity, and tap into complex feelings and emotions.  Join us for an evening of writing and sharing in a safe and caring environment.  We want to find ways to support participants in their various writing projects and to encourage people touched by cancer to give voice to their experience.

  • Cancer Genetics Q&A with a Genetic Counselor: Family History and Hereditary Cancer Risk

  • Card Making Workshop:
    • Description: Attend this card-making workshop and help us design holiday cards that will be given to Ovarian Cancer patients who will be spending the holidays in the hospital. This workshop will be craft based but will also touch upon awareness and educational elements of Ovarian Cancer.

  • Men of T.E.A.L.® Meet Up Series
    • Description:
      Has someone close to you been affected by Ovarian Cancer? Do you find it difficult to relate and/or talk about? Attendees joined our men of T.E.A.L.® meet up and casual discussion of how Ovarian Cancer has impacted our lives. This workshop provided a support network of people who can relate to your situation. You can still be part of Men of T.E.A.L.® if you live out of New York state. We have resources for you including a call in option for our monthly series. This series includes snacks, discussion, and socializing. Men of T.E.A.L.® is now an on-going series!

  • Inflammation: Integrating Nutrition into Your Health Plan Workshop
    • Description: This workshop will be moderated by Lisa Zullig (NS, RDN, CSG, CDN) Director of Nutrition Services at God's Love We Deliver. You've heard a lot about the "anti-inflammation" diet. How it cures everything from cancer to heart disease to diabetes. In this presentation, we'll examine what the scientists are saying about inflammation and cancer. Is the anti-inflammation diet right for you? By the end of this event, you will know what changes you need to make in your diet and how to create your own anti-inflammatory menu for yourself.

  •  Laughter Yoga Workshop
    • Description: In this workshop will be moderated by Sister Susan Wilcox and will include exercises that induce laughter. According to the Mayo Clinic, "laughter increases your intake of oxygen rich air, stimulates heart, lungs, and muscles and increases endorphins that are released into you brain." Your body however does not know the difference (whether you are actually laughing at something funny). This workshop will include instructional breathing and imaginative exercises to induce laughing.

  • Jewelry Making Workshop Series
    •  Description: In this workshop series moderated by Licensed Creative Arts Therapist, Michele Simler, attendees will learn how to create beaded earrings, bracelets, and necklaces using wire and string. Enjoy the varying colors, shapes, sizes, and textures of beads, creating designs that are pleasing to you!  This series will help reduce anxiety & stress and build self-confidence through the act of creating, sharing, and learning

  • Exploring Meditation Workshop
    • Description: This workshop was moderated by Enrique Bejarano, a student of meditation, presence, and stillness from an early age. Enrique volunteers and has given workshops at the Smillow Cancer Center at Yale New Haven Hospital. This event includes a brief overview of meditation concepts and fundamentals with focus on familiarizing those attending through interactive group practice and discussion. Topics discussed included some brief historic context and conversation about why we meditate, as well as fundamentals of posture, breath, visualization, and stillness. Structured as short interactive modules, building up to 20 minutes of silent group meditation followed by a brief moment of sharing. Space is limited. Bring your own Yoga Matt.

  • Breath Empowerment Workshop
    • Description: This workshop was moderated by Enrique Bejarano, a certified instructor in the Breath-Empowerment exercises. Enrique volunteers and has given workshops at the Smillow Cancer Center at Yale New Haven Hospital. The Breath-Empowerment is a fun guided-breathing session designed to fight stress and have one feeling tangible energy regardless of skill, prior experience, fitness, or current health*. The breath empowerment is a powerful yet simple practice accessible to all. It is a pranayama technique that originates from the ayruvedic system in India, but has found application in many disciplines. The class begin by demonstrating a few breathing techniques that help fight stress and help prepare one for the Breath Empowerment sequence. Space is limited.

  • Qigong/Tai Chi Workshop
    • Description: This workshop was moderated by Enrique Bejarano, a Qigong practitioner (pronounced "chee-gong") and certified instructor. Enrique volunteers and has given workshops at the Smillow Cancer Center at Yale New Haven Hospital. Qigong, the mother of Tai-Chi, is a gentle practice of breath coordinated movements and visualizations designed to promote healing, vitality, and well-being by relieving stress and balancing the body's nervous systems. Less technical than a Tai Chi routine, this class requires no prior knowledge or experience as an introduction or group practice that will allow participants to engage other classes or similar content with ease. The emphasis lies in "feeling it," maintaining a connection and being "happy-relax." Space is limited. Bring your own Yoga Matt.

  • Preventative Surgery Ladies Meetup Series
    • Description: After learning that she had the BRCA 1 mutation, Rachel Levine underwent an oophorectomy in 2009 at the age of 37.  She will share the way she came to this decision, and what the effects of the procedure have meant for her, as well as answer questions that you may have. This is an open group for those considering preventative surgery or those who have gone through preventative surgery such as an oophorectomy or a hysterectomy.
